Keep Illegal Immigrants Out of Mexico
51How Ironic?
Today I went for a walk down Reforma Avenue in Mexico City, like I usually do every afternoon. I felt really tired and was thinking about a nap, but thought it would be better to take a walk.
Reforma Avenue was blocked (again) due to a demonstration march. The marchers were walking from the Angel of Independence and most likely heading towards the Zocalo. Trucks and buses were ahead of and behind the march. Every few feet there was a kind of "leader" who had a microphone and portable speaker encouraging the chants for the march and against whatever the group was protesting.
Almost every day there are marches and demonstrations that mostly block traffic and make the rest of the city commuters very angry. I have a feeling that the politicians pay no mind to them because they are such a common occurrence. The only time it seems to bother the politicians is when they, themselves are caught in the traffic. I only hope that perhaps someone pays attention.
Today's demonstration was a group of workers from some different walks of life, including some peopel who supposedly were airline mechanics, and then some people who must have been working at Grupo Modelo (a large beer company in Mexico), or people they have to help them with the protest. They probably have very good reasons to strike and to protest because their living conditions are not so good, and the prices of food, gas, and clothing keeps going up, just like in every country around the world. Everything goes up except for the wages.
This group, like every other protest group that walks and blocks the main street of Mexico City were carrying many signs of protest. The one that I thought was most intriguing said in Spanish “End Foreign Illegal Workers.”
So, taking their jobs, must also be people coming in from Guatemala, Colombia, El Salvador and other countries, who may be taking their jobs here in Mexico. What is so interesting about that is that almost everyone in Mexico has relatives, illegal or legal, working in the U.S. and even the Mexican governmnet fights for their rights to be in the U.S. Interesting observation.

interesting report. Many thanks.
The immigration problem needs to be solved, almost any way possible.
The "immigration problem" could be solved by companies paying workers a living wage.
